  •       Benzene, an organic compound, is the simplest aromatic hydrocarbon. Its chemical formula is C6H6. At room temperature, it is a sweet, flammable, carcinogenic, colorless transparent liquid with a strongaromatic smell. It is slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in organic solvents, and can also be used as an organic solvent. The ring system of benzene is called benzene ring. The structure of benzene ring after removing one hydrogen atom is called phenyl, which is expressed in Ph. Therefore, the chemical formula of benzene can also be written as PhH. Benzene is a basic petrochemical raw material, and its output and production technology level is one of the indicators of a national petrochemical development level.

Application

The most important use of benzene in industry is as chemical raw materials. Benzene can synthesize a series of benzene derivatives: benzene can be used as raw materials for making plastics, rubber, fibers, dyes, detergents, pesticides, etc. through a series of compounds generated by substitution reaction, addition reaction, oxidation reaction, etc. About 10% of benzene is used as the basic raw material for manufacturing benzene series intermediates As an important raw material for synthetic dyes, synthetic rubber, synthetic resins, synthetic fibers, synthetic cereals, plastics, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, photographic films and petrochemical products, this product has good solubility, so it is widely used as adhesives and industrial solvents, such as: thinners for varnish, nitrocellulose paint, paint removers, lubricants, grease, wax, celluloid, resin, artificial leather and other solvents.

·       Benzene is used mainly as an intermediate to make other chemicals. it is primarily used in the manufacture of nylon fibers, which are processed into textiles and engineering plastics. Smaller amounts of benzene are used to make some types of rubbers, lubricants, dyes, detergents, and pesticides·

Component of gasoline As a gasoline (petrol) additive, benzene increases the octane rating and reduces knocking.
